Welcome to the website of "Galerie Rubens de Maria Manfredonia"

I am a force from the past!
Only tradition merits my love!
I come from antique ruins, from churches, from altars
from the forgotten boroughs in the Apennines and the Pre-Alps
there where my brothers lived.
(Pier Paolo Pasolini- « Io sono una forza del passato »)

Today I visited the nymph Egeria, after that the Circus of Caracalla, the graves and the ruins along the Via Apia and the Mausoleum of Metella, that gives you an impression of solid masonry. These people worked for eternity, and they took into consideration everything, except the dementia of vandals, to which everything must finally cease.
(J.W. Goethe “Travel to Italy”)

In 2004 I heard for the first time about Cannaiola di Trevi when my sister sheltered my mother there. Since that time I have been there several times for periods of two to three days, but only for visiting my mother.
In April last year I was finally able to stay there some ten days and I was able to discover this borough, near the beautiful city of Trevi in Umbria. It gives a strong rural impression, but also a residential one, because numerous villas can be found there that where built to have more space than in the medieval cities that the region is filled with.
The only street in the borough is being surrounded by houses with the debris and the rests of a great past, in which several cultures left their traces.
I prefer not to get involved with the history of the borough and as such I can ask questions like:
  • Where is the rest of the church of which only the front remained?
  • How will the building have been of which we only see the loggia now?
  • The fresco of the Madonna with Child that’s now in the street, has it always been there, or was it inside a church? If so, what happened?

I hope these examples of beauty and culture will not only survive because it is mandatory by law, but that they will moreover constitute the stem cells of a new culture.

The gallery was inaugurated on 22 March 2006 and wants to be a meeting place and a cultural crossroad for the Brussels inhabitants and tourists. Since its opening the gallery exhibited artists of several nationalities living in Belgium or abroad. In the more than 30 exhibitions organized in the gallery, mainly paintings, but also sculptures, ceramics, tapestries, photographs and illustrations were exhibited. Galerie Rubens de Maria Manfredonia is undoubtedly one of the most active galleries in Brussels that propose contemporary art varying from figurative to abstract art. The gallery has the ambition of also performing more specifically didactic activities by organizing art workshops, set up and led by the artists of the gallery.

The gallery also has a powerful web server that is constantly updated. The web server is also equipped with a shopping cart, and the works of art exhibited in the gallery can also be purchased through the e-shop, a truly online art gallery.
